The 2020 AHPI AGM took place on the 12th of February 2020 in the Carmelite Community Centre in Dublin. It was lovely to see so many members attend throughout the day and it was a great opportunity for so many friends and colleagues to get together and catch up.

IMG 20200212 WA0000After the business meeting which included reports from the Executive committee, Accreditation Board, Treasurers Report and CPD subcommittee we had our first AHPI Journal Club workshop. The aim of this workshop was for participants to actively engage in the critical appraisal of a health promotion research paper in the context of health promotion practice and the core competencies of health promotion. The paper that was discussed was ‘Men’s health in alternative spaces: exploring men’s sheds in Ireland’ by Lefkowich & Richardson. The facilitator for this session was Dr Jane Sixsmith. Jane is a lecturer in Health Promotion, Discipline of Health Promotion at NUI Galway and also a member of the AHPI Executive Committee. She brought her wealth of experience and knowledge to the delivery of the journal club and provided an insightful and practical session.

After lunch, we had a really informative planning session. We are delighted that the AHPI is now a vibrant community with 169 members. Additionally, we also have 33 IUHPE Registered Health Promotion Practitioners in Ireland. Both the AHPI Executive and Accreditation Board consist of dedicated volunteers who give freely of their time and expertise. It was really helpful to use this time to plan for the AHPI going forward and we would like to thank those members who have volunteered to get involved.   Thanks to all who attended the day and for all the hard work put in by the various committees.
