23rd IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion

The IUHPE are inviting those who work in health promotion to submit an abstract to the 23rd IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion. This conference will take place in New Zealand in April 2019. Much of the health promotion work and research from Ireland connects with IUHPE 2019’s theme and subthemes (Health equity, Inclusive habitats, Climate change adaptation strategies, and Build effective, accountable and inclusive governance). The deadline for abstract submission has now been extended to 14th September 2018 and we would encourage submissions from those working in Health Promotion including researchers, practitioners and decision makers to share their work on this international platform.

‘Leadership in influencing the Health and Wellbeing Agenda’

The most recent CPD workshop hosted by the AHPI, focused on ‘Leadership in influencing the Health and Wellbeing Agenda’. The practice of Health Promotion is based on nine internationally recognised competencies, one of which is Leadership. This workshop aimed to provide participants with an overview of the principles of effective leadership in influencing the health and wellbeing agenda and how these translate into health promotion practice.
The facilitator for the workshop was Dr Felicity Kelliher. Dr Kelliher is a Senior Lecturer in Management, co-chair of the RIKON research group at the School of Business, Waterford IT and partner faculty Professor at Shanghai University, China. Fecility has over 20+ years of teaching and training experience and extensive International experience in senior Project Management and Retail and Finance Consultancy roles. She brought her wealth of experience and knowledge to the delivery of the workshop and provided an insightful and practical session.
The workshop was very well attended, with 38 delegates attending from the AHPI, HSE and other sectors. Waterford IT hosted the event in the impressive Health Science building which provided a great opportunity to network and catch up with up with colleagues and friends.
Overall it was a hugely successful day and we would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to our colleagues in the South East, Aileen Scott, Susan Scully and Teresa Hennessy; Dr Kelliher, Mairead Barry and Dr Michael Harrison from WIT and all those who attended.

Health Promotion Conference Galway 2018

We were delighted to be at the 22nd Annual Health Promotion Conference in Galway yesterday. The theme of this years conference was 'strengthening the circle of knowledge in relation to participation and empowerment for health and social care service users'. Many thanks to the team for organising a wonderful day and a fantastic line up of speakers. As always it was great to meet up with so many AHPI members. The AHPI also sponsored the award for best poster and best tweeter on the day. Congrats to Cathy Ann Fox for keeping us up to date on twitter and to Eleanor Loftus and her supervisor Margaret McLoone from Sligo IT for the best poster 'Postnatal women's experience of breastfeeding support in the North West of Ireland'.
